The winners of the 2007 World Automotive Design Competition (WADC), sponsored by Autodesk, were announced at the 2007 Canadian International Auto Show in February. The competition was relaunched in 2007 with a few new twists created to meet the needs of the global automotive industry. Fiat has purchased the remaining stake in Chrysler to become the sole owner of the US car firm. In a deal worth £2.2billion, the Italian company bought the remaining 41.46% of Chrysler from the VEBA Trust (Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association) made up of current and former Chrysler employees. Fiat Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne says: ‘In the life of every major organisation and its people, there are defining moments that go down in the history books.
Mercedes quietly unveiled the 2009 Mercedes Benz E Class at Detroit. Quietly, because it wasn’t actually planned, but due to details leaking out ahead of the show, it seems Mercedes decided they may as well get the reveal over. Bigger than the last generation E Class, the new E Class gets a complete styling overhaul, with a new style in keeping with Mercedes more recent ‘Family’ looks.
